FAQ PhotoMasterTarget/ColorBalanceCoach: When I take the picture of the grey surface, should I leave my WB settings to AWB to take the picture for use in setting custom WB ?

For Canon, Nikon and other brands, it does not make any difference the mode that you are in when you take the image you will use for setting the white balance. As a second step the camera will white balance the surface or the image that you have chosen to perform the custon WB.

FAQ PhotoMasterTarget/ColorBalanceCoach: My camera has trouble focusing on the grey surface to get a picture for setting the WB. Would an out-of-focus picture acceptable ?

Many cameras have that limitation of focussing before exposure. When you walk in to fill the screen with the target, it may be impossible to focus. There is no problem as long as you are not casting a shadow on the target. So sharp or out of focus target will be as usefull to set your exposure.

The ColorBalanceCoach disc looks like a photographic reflector and like it, it can be collapsed to use only a fraction of the space, this allowed us to include on the disc the largest grey card on the market, that can still fit in your photo bag. The ColorBalanceCoach is made of 4 distict regions called patches. The largest is the grey patch, made of chromaticaly neutral synthetic material it will remain stable in density and color for years to come. The black patch reflects only about 3% of the light it receives, the white reflective patch will reflect more than 92% of the light and the dull translucent patch will reflect 80% of the light. The transluscent patch is made of 100% colorless white fabric that will allow a shoot through white balancing area as well as a reflected low-light reflected white balance patch. NOW AVAILABLE IN 3 SIZES.
